Moving to Melbourne was one of the scariest and best choices I've made. I arrived with a portfolio, English to practise and no contacts.
I started as a 3D artist for a cosmetics brand and, step by step, became its head designer. But work was only part of the story.
Learning to listen in another language
Working in English forced me to ask better questions. When you take nothing for granted, you listen more: what the client really wants, what they can't put into words, what they expect without knowing it.
People make the difference
What I carry with me are the colleagues who trusted me early, coffee breaks turned into brainstorms, video calls home at absurd hours. And the feeling that design is a language that works anywhere, if you speak it with respect.
Today I work between Pesaro and Bologna, but I still collaborate with Australian clients. That stretch of road is part of how I design.
